For this extraordinary scent – a scent so good that it received the 2021 Perfume Extraordinaire of the Year Award – we aged our organic, sugar cane alcohol in a vintage cognac barrel, giving the scent a captivating edge that beckons for decadence.

Powerful yet not overpowering, UNUE possesses all the attributes of an afterglow, a floral-woody expression in sandalwood and musks that ensure a sensual presence! Notes of Italian bergamot, Egyptian jasmine and ylang-ylang immediately set the tone and show their colors! Radiant and as graceful as a white flower, the top note conjures a floral-white that seems traversed by a ray of light. At its heart lies a fruity accord. A restrained touch of plum and pineapple blend with a duo of Pink Berries and Anise. To underscore the almost carnal, woody density of its dry-down, the perfumer weaves a backdrop of musks and comforting, silky and milky sandalwood that becomes one with the skin. This delightful woody amber enters with a fresh and elegant cardamom, lightly laced with plum and pomegranate before opening into a heart of Egyptian jasmine, a fresh, aromatic, clean patchouli and a tint of rose. The light woods of sandalwood and cedar combined with a light musk and amber notes make this a light, sensuous and very versatile scent.
INSPIRATION
The fresh faced natural beauty of Persephone was free from artifice or evil, her sweet nature and purity of soul was adored by gods, goddesses and humankind. Her playground and purpose was nature, symbolic of spring and summer, she was associated with flowers, harvest, fruit, grain and the beauty and bounty of nature.
This perfume was created with Patchouli of the Underworld as a pair. Two perfumers explore the central note of Patchouli through two lenses of the same story: that of Pluto and his Queen Persephone.
PERFUMERS NOTE
“I used patchouli heart which is a cleaner patchouli note and enriched with musky and ambery textures. On top, I added fresh spicy elements, notably Cardamom from Guatemala. I combined the patchouli character with floral notes of Bulgarian rose. To enhance the fruity part of the rose, I added a note of plum that also goes really well with the warmth of the patchouli. For the floral heart, I used responsibly-sourced jasmine from Egypt for its richness. I added a gourmand twist with honey and a touch of coffee. This is rounded by a creamy facet with sandalwood notes and blond woods. And of course 6 pomegranate seeds.” Christian Provenzano

Inspiration: A secret love affair begins innocently enough with jammy rose essence and juicy plum accord in Liaisons dangereuses, typical me.
Fragrance story: The connection intensifies as blackcurrant buds absolute mark love’s stain, its deep purple undercurrents tangling with hedonistic ambrette seed essence, cultivated in the heat of equatorial terrain, mirroring heated nights of passion. Vanilla absolute and moss keep the scent suspended just above the natural world, keeping the secret safe a little while longer.
